I have to admit that I have previously underestimated this movie. I recently saw “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and I just loved it! It is truly a good bed time story with princes and princesses, magic and villains.
The movie presents the story of Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), an orphan that is adopted by the Persian king and so becomes one of the three princes that rule the Empire of Persia. Dastan leads an incredible attack on the sacred city of Alamut where he stumbles upon a magical dagger and also meets the ruler of Alamut, princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a woman of rare beauty.
Unfortunately for Dastan he is accused of murdering his father and so the adventure for clearing his name begins. At the same time he has Princess Tamina at his side which wants to get his dagger and take it to safety because in the wrong hands it might destroy the world.
The above are the perfect premises for great adventure and a thrilling movie and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” rises up to the task at hand.
I enjoyed this movie a lot because compared to the video game which is more mystical, this one does not go to far from the veridical side of the story but still has enough magic in it to keep the legend alive. The story is always in a throttle without slow moments so it keeps you in the movie at all times.
I especially liked the fact that they chose Jake Gyllenhaal for the role of Dastan, a male that oterwise looks more kind of “cute” then ferocious, giving this way more charm to the character that at the beginning of the movie has to play a naive prince.
All in all I totally recommend “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” because it is one of the best legend type of movies I have seen in a while!
