This is a guest post:

“From the creator of Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar, this is a Viking adventure story with dragons, swords and moral lessons. The action takes place on a mythical island, Berk, in a village which has always been in a continuous re-building because of the permanent attacks. We found out that the war between Vikings and dragons has prevailed since.. forever, and people have many times set sail to the sea hoping and trusting to find the dragons’ nest and destroy it for good. Here, everybody trained for killing the different species of dragons who attacked by spiting fire, snatching livestock and basically ravaging everything in sight. Everybody, except one: Hiccup, the son of the brave and stubborn Viking Chief, Stoick the Vast. He is an apprentice at his father’s trusted companion’s blacksmith house and always kept away from combat, as his proportions are far from being imposing or aggressive. In a very nasty raid of the dragons, Hiccup injured a very feared dragon, a Night Furry, which falls somewhere on the island and remains trapped, as a part of his tail got broken from his catapult, so it cannot fly anymore. The boy discovers the dragon and from this point on a very special relation is established between the two, the plot being concentrated from now on, around Hiccup and Toothless.

The 3D is absolutely marvelous, the effects are splashy so you feel like you’re always in the middle of the action the storyline is beautiful with excellent animation, original shaped characters and original imagined dragons, each with a special feature visible exaggerated. The scenes are touching and exciting, so that at the end of the movie I was sad it was over. It has a lot of funny and adorable moments combined with action scenes and a lot of passion and affection.
It’s not the first dragon movie, but trust me, it’s the first one to offer a new perspective: the dragons are good and smart creatures which could live in peace with humans. It’s definitely one of those movies from which you’ll be using lines and catchwords and most probably you’ll want a Toothless as a pet.
PS. (I must admit that some scenes carried me to find some resemblances with The Lord of the Rings) (Silviu note: and some take us to Avatar)”
