“The Hurt Locker” Review
March 4, 2010Length: 131′
Personal Rating (1-10): 5
Since the Oscars are almost here, I decided to start watching some of the best movie nominees. I already saw some of them, like “Avatar” (not worth writing about), “Inglorious Basterds” (great movie, just did not have the time to write about it then) and “Up in the Air”, and this Sunday I saw “Up” (hopefully I will be able to write about it soon as it was neet).
Well yesterday I saw “The Hurt Locker” or at least I tried to. The movie is two hours long and I managed to see a little over one hour out of it waiting to see something, the plot, something!
“The Hurt Locker” is a war movie, inspired by the conflict in Iraq, and quite frankly I did not follow. In the center of the “action” we have this unit of three man that are supposed to disarm bombs. These bombs were left there by we don’t know who, don’t know why, but we are lead to believe that the inhabitants of the occupied country did. Since the beginning their leader is killed by an unfortunate explosion and replaced by Sergent (I think) William James, a guy that does not take the rules to seriously and seems to put the lives of the other two men and especially his at risk.
It was my impression that the movie tries to catch the drama of the american heroes that fought there, but to me it was only a few boring war images and no message. Maybe if I had more patience and waited until the end I would have saw the meaning, but what movie is that, that after more the 70 minutes, you still haven’t seen the plot?
This all I had to say about the movie, but now for the fun facts! I read on someone’s blog (warning: site is in a different language, but the e-mail is left in English) that one of the producers of “The Hurt Locker” wrote an e-mail to one of the judges from the Oscars asking him to vote for his picture and to “spread” the word around, so that not a big money spender like “Avatar” would win, but a low budget, soul made, movie would. How lame is that? It is obvious that after a scandal like this they really dimmed their chances of winning. Even though I did not like” Avatar”, I still would vote for it instead of this.
Because it is already a custom for me, trailer bellow:

I, for one, liked this movie. I saw it full hd and that does the trick for a special scene, when the bomb explodes and the sand goes up with every particle.
It’s not an Oscar winning movie but for a nominee it’s ok .
The ideea of a bomb squad in Iraq is good, I’m tired of all war gun shooting movies, this was different, it was made from another point of view.
Didn’t look at it in this perspective… hmmm…. ahhh…. nope! still don’t like it
[...] Best Movie – “The Hurt Locker“. I really don’t understand why, but hey who am I to judge? “The Hurt [...]
On the other hand, Sanborn is by the books: he knows his place and duty and trusts others in the army to carry out theirs as well as he.
