“Leaves of Grass” is the new movie staring one of my favorites, Edward Norton, and just to make it more fun he has two different roles so twice the fun.
Even from the beginning the movie has drawn me in with a wonderful lecture by Bill Kincaid one of the roles of Edward Norton here. Bill is a philosophy teacher with a very “clean” act that has been running from his life in Oklahoma trying to be “normal”. The entire movie is made in sort of a mirror and on the other side, the one that according to Bill is not normal, “Leaves of Grass” presents Brady Kincaid, Bill’s twin brother. Brady is exactly the opposite of Bill, he is the type of hillbilly loves his hometown in Oklahoma, loves to get high and all in all has a rather disrupted life but in a controversial way, peaceful. The plot of the movie is given by the apparent death of Brady which brings Bill back to his hometown, only to find out he was tricked into being Brady’s alibi for one day. This experience brings out new feelings in Bill and things start to change.
“Leaves of Grass” brings in front of us, two great performances by Edward Norton that have in common only the physical resemblance in the two characters. The talent in Edward made from a somewhat boring script a good drama and a movie that you will not be sorry you watched.
The fact about this movie is that even though it’s nothing out of the ordinary it just keeps you glued in. You don’t see comedy bits to keep you watching for the fun of it, you don’t see intelligent twists in the plot, nor hot chicks but you just want to see what happens and what decisions will the brothers take under the influence of them being reunited.
Also worth mentioning that the mother of the two is played by Susan Sarandon which gives “Leaves of Grass” more bonus points. Her role is not that important but the interventions she has are just delightful.
And just because I want to bitch about it, the ending is a bit to “romantic” and they try to hard to make it a good ending.
Verdict: Worth Watching. Reason: Great performance that makes a mediocre movie shine. Trailer:
