An Education” is another of the best movie nominee at the Oscars (unfortunately I don’t think I will see them all before the ceremony tonight, never mind writing about them). The British production presents the story of Jenny (Carey Mulligan), a teenage high-school girl, that dreams of getting in at Oxford University. She meets David (Peter Sarsgaard) an older, sophisticated man, that shows her how the fun side of life. Inevitably she falls in love with him and so her experience at the “Life University”, as David calls it, begins, hence the name “An Education“.

The movie has a very good vibe, and even though it did not inspire me all that much, I liked it a lot because it presents a very up to date issue. Both Carey Mulligan (Jenny) and Peter Sarsgaard (David) pull of stunning performances and make you sympathize with Jenny’s naivety and at the same time fall in love with David’s charm.

Alongside the two we also find good performances from  Alfred Molina as Jack (Jenny’s father) and Rosamund Pike as Helen, but also scenic appearances from Emma Thompson as headmaster of Jenny’s school.

As a whole “An Education” is a very good movie, with a well thought story and no inadvertences in the script. I liked the fact that the ending is a bit surprising and that it takes us with our feet back to earth, but the let’s call it happy ending is a bit to much, it is plausible but a fair amount of chance is needed for it. I also have to mention that the production was also fairly good with a nice representation of England in the 60′s and all the grey colors typical for the rainy land.

Verdict: Must see! Reason: all of the above! Trailer:
