First released at Cannes on the 17th of May 2009, “Agora” has it’s action set in ancient Egypt, in the wonderful city of Alexandria, home of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world (google it).
“Agora” can be separated in two parts, the first one taking place in 391 a.d. when Christianity become a legal religion for not a long time and was easily becoming one with influence in the Roman Empire.
The story has in it’s center philosopher Hypatia, played by Rachel Weisz, and the siege on the library in Alexandria.The second part is a few years later when already some Hypatia’s students become political figures, high priests or fighters in a Christian order called the Parabolonian.
I liked a lot how the atmosphere is recreated and especially liked how the Christians got new followers thru love and mercy stones and blood. “Agora” is a very pleasant movie to watch for those who like legends and movies from that period of time but not only. I must warn you that it is a bit shocking and bloody at times so do not watch while eating.
I for one liked it very much and do not have anything bad to say about it. Bellow is the trailer that does not describe the movie that well, but this is the way it should be: the movie better than the trailer.
I can’t wait for the new Iron Man movie. Iron Man 2 is going to be the best! The soundtrack with AC/DC is going to be great! I wonder if they will leave it open for a third Iron Man movie…
