"Sherlock Holmes" – Review

January 11, 2010

I went yesterday to the Cinemas, that’s always a pleasure, and sitting there, I noticed I know all the trailers, previews etc. etc. I just loved the trailer for “Inception” which seen on my computer did not have the same sound effect.

Uh Oh! I almost forgot! I also saw the new “Sherlock Holmes” movie and I just don’t know what to say about it.
I remember being all excited about this movie since about June last year when I first saw a trailer or something, and just could not wait for Christmas then, just because of Robert Downey Jr.
I was sitting in the hall way in front of the door and was all excited and scared that the movie will not rise to the occasion. And it didn’t.

Let’s see, the main thing that bothered me was the actual story, which included a lot of magic. So the basic story is that Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his partner (Jude Law) catch a serial killer, Lord Blackwood, which will be trialled and hanged. So far so good. The problem is that Blackwood will then be resurrected and then a series of events takes place that puts us in a high speed action movie that kind of takes you in. The other thing I did not like, is that they made Sherlock some sort of super fighter, Matrix style, which from my point of view is kind of bullshit. There are two scenes of this sort of fighting which although fun, they did not fit to the story.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law played their parts magnificent and made the movie enjoyable, actually this is the only reason for which I will not bitch about “Sherlock Holmes”, they made the two hours spent in a chair.

So, if you have the chance, go see it. Otherwise don’t worry that much.

PS: for those who care: the director is Guy Ritchie
